At 1 Wimpole Street we realise our venue and services have an impact on the environment around us. We are therefore committed to the implementation of an effective environmental system. As a visitor, we encourage you to support us where you can and outline a few suggestions below.
Public Transport:
Given our venue’s central location, it is within a few minutes’ walk from both Bond Street and Oxford Circus Underground Stations as well as the numerous bus routes from Oxford Street that service all areas of London.
Cycling:
We have a secure bicycle storage facility in our carpark, in the case you may like to cycle to our venue. Alternatively, you may want to use the Santander bicycle hire scheme – the nearest docking station is located on Chapel Place.
Sourcing high quality, local ingredients:
Enjoy your refreshments and meals knowing that the ingredients and products are seasonal, fresh, locally and responsibly sourced. Our suppliers are dedicated to promoting sustainability, minimising food miles, traceability and sourcing fresh seasonal products.
Reduce, re-use & recycle:
Our teams will recycle all appropriate products left in the rooms after your event. We also have recycling bins for paper, glass, cardboard, plastic, cans, batteries, and printer cartridges, throughout the building. We work with Veolia UK to make sure our food waste is disposed of in a sustainable manner. We also minimise packaging on deliveries where possible by using returnable crates.
Embracing energy efficiency:
We encourage all guests to switch off lights and air conditioning units when leaving the room. If you forget, don’t worry as our computerised Building Management System (BMS) will manage the controls appropriately. Additionally, we make use of windows and natural light to reduce the need for artificial lighting during daytime events.
Water:
Please use water wisely. When you have washed your hands, please ensure that taps are turned off. We have an on-site water purification system which has saved annually an estimated 92,000 1-litre glass bottles from being transported, saving an estimated 7,200 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Technology:
If you have guests who would need to travel from afar, consider a hybrid solution instead to reduce the air miles and their carbon footprint. Our in-house AV team have extensive experience of hosting digital events to large audiences both onsite and remotely.
Respect the local area and nature:
Please dispose of litter respectfully and in the appropriate bins. If you smoke outside the building, we have cigarette bins just inside the entrance to dispose of cigarette butts.
Plastic reduction pledge:
We have signed up to the mia’s #20PercentLess pledge, committing to significantly reducing single-use plastics at 1 Wimpole Street.
