4 ways you can make your venue greener in 2024!
In the events and conferences world, the push for sustainability has become a focal point for organisations striving to make a positive impact on business and the environment.
As organisations recognise the significance of their ecological footprint, a shift towards greener practices extends to every facet of sales and operations—including the venues and events spaces.
Here are four simple things we do at 1 Wimpole Street that you can do:
1. Embrace Energy Efficiency:
One of the most impactful steps towards sustainability is optimising energy consumption within your venue. Implementing energy-efficient lighting systems such as LED lamps will save a lot more electricity than you think!
At 1 Wimpole Street, we turn off unnecessary light and climate control our rooms through a computerised Building Management System (BMS). Additionally, making use of windows and natural light reduces our need for artificial lighting during daytime events.
2. Implement Waste Management Strategies:
Taking a proactive approach towards waste management means setting up easily accessible recycling stations throughout the venue and promoting biodegradable or reusable materials to be used instead of single-use plastics.
Here at 1 Wimpole Street, we work with Veolia UK to make sure our food waste is disposed of in a clean and conscious way. We also minimise packaging on deliveries where possible by using returnable crates.
3. Saving water:
Introducing sustainable water systems will preserve natural resources, conserve energy and save money. At 1 Wimpole Street, we have an on-site water purification system which has saved annually an estimated 92,000 1 litre glass bottles from being transported, saving an estimated 7,200 tonnes of carbon emissions.
4. Limit paper consumption:
The production of paper requires significant amounts of energy, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. This is why we use FSC certified paper in our meeting rooms but try to use electronic documentation and files where possible.
What other ways do you think venues can become greener in 2024?
